Trying to get that feeling again

Those of us who live on the creative side of life know what it’s like to have up and down periods of productivity. And the more we dig deeper into a project, the swings seem more pronounced. I marveled at colleagues at Purdue who could sit down and just write at 2 p.m. in the afternoon for an hour. They didn’t need to be “in the zone,” nor did they need to have inspirational light shining through the window. No, they just sat down and started writing. At the time, I knew I couldn’t do that.

I found that even in ministry leadership, there were often parts of the job where I was seeking some special motivation, a “feeling” to get me started in preparation. Needless to say, there were some projects that went undone for quite some time.

Rekindle Your Passion!

If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day this weekend, what memories give shape to your celebration? The first look you gave him/her? A first date? [Ours was TU movie, Muppets Take Manhattan. Date two was better - Somewhere in Time] The moment where you thought this could be it? Perhaps you’ve recalled a promise you made, that he/she would be the only one and the love of your life?

It’s a great weekend to rekindle the sparks, to spend time w/o interference and focus on your relationship. In fact, every month should have such a weekend!! If your significant other’s love language isn’t receiving gifts, a weekend like this may not mean as much as the daily ongoing expression of your love in more meaningful ways. Love is in the eye of the receiver… or something like that. So, make sure you’re communicating love to him/her in ways special to them.
